SIT: How Modern Life is Quietly Killing us

Every day, millions of people spend most of their waking hours sitting. We sit to work, sit to travel, sit to eat, sit to relax and sit to be entertained. It feels normal because everyone does it, yet our bodies were never designed for this way of life. Behind this modern routine lies a silent epidemic contributing to obesity, heart disease, type 2 diabetes, chronic pain, poor mental health, reduced productivity, premature ageing and a growing loss of energy and vitality. The danger is not dramatic or immediate. It happens quietly, one chair, one screen and one sedentary day at a time.

In SIT, Dr Samson Ojo explores how modern life has gradually disconnected us from the movement our bodies and brains evolved to depend upon. Drawing on evolutionary biology, public health research, behavioural science and real-world evidence, he explains why prolonged sitting has become one of the most overlooked threats to modern health. More importantly, he demonstrates that reversing the damage does not require extreme fitness.
